Évangile et Liberté

Translation Canon Tony Dickinson
Eternal One,
They tell us that you speak to us,
But I have never heard your voice
With my own ears.
The only voices which I hear
Are fraternal voices
Which say to me the essential words.
They tell us that you journey with us
But I have never caught you mingling your steps
With my own walk.
The only companions whom I know
Are the fraternal beings
Who share the rain, the wind, the sun.
They tell us that you love us,
But I have never felt your hand placed
On my own shoulders.
The only hands that I experience
Are the fraternal hands
Which embrace , console and accompany.
But it is you, O Eternal One,
Who offer me these voices,
These companions,
These hands,
Then, in the heart of silence and absence,
You become, through all these brothers,
Word and Presence.
May you be blessed.
Amen.
